Underwriting Account Associate

The Position:

This role will involve providing appropriate support within the Underwriting team to help the department continue to deliver an efficient and effective professional service. The Underwriting Associate will have the opportunity to learn, and then ultimately earn underwriting authority to autonomously price selected products.

Main duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support the underwriting process through variety of technical tasks involving calculations and preparation of client documents.
  • Responsible for the performance of all manual rating computations for all products. These fundamentally important manual rates form the starting point for subsequent pricing work carried out by the Underwriters.
  • Reviewing small group new business and renewal quotations in line with published underwriting guidelines.
  • Preparing renewal packages by gathering and verifying premium and claims data, ordering census listings, calculating manual rates, reviewing rate history and large claims information searches.
  • Maintaining a series of reports, produced regularly (usually monthly) that are critical to the underwriting and financial management of the business.
  • Responsible for distributing quotes within the team.
  • Providing system and technical support to Underwriters such as gathering renewal information, data entry, running reports and spreadsheet management.
  • Ensuring that all underwriting documents and procedures are up to date and complete.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Higher Grade (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Medical knowledge is preferred but not essential.
  • Degree in a mathematical subject preferred but not essential.

Skills and Experience:

  • Detail oriented, organised and thorough, with strong personal focus on accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigation and problem solving skills.
  • Strong PC application knowledge and ability to quickly and efficiently learn information management and other reporting functions.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and effectively juggle priorities
  • Ability to understand overall perspective while attentive to detail
  • Basic Microsoft applications - Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Basic system navigation skills - Euronet, network drives,
