Product information

CIGNA HealthCare is one of the UK’s leading providers of managed employee healthcare benefits and services including: medical insurance, absence management and occupational health services, cover for expatriates dental plans, cash plans and health management programmes.

Medical

CIGNA has a unique approach to delivering employee healthcare for large organisations, where nurses work closely with employees and healthcare providers to ensure the appropriate care is delivered in the right setting. This managed care approach, which was pioneered in the UK by CIGNA, works to manage costs for the employer whilst delivering the best outcome for the employee. It also provides in depth insights into the utilisation of the healthcare plan and the health issues facing the employer. CIGNA also offers PMI solutions to small corporate clients. SmartHealth is a flexible PMI plan which provides small corporate clients with the capability to flex cover up or down to suit their requirements. Out-patient, psychiatric and health management benefits can be flexed down and full dental cover can be added to provide cover for routine dental care.

Whilst specialising in corporate PMI, CIGNA also offers a range of plans to the individual market. CIGNA’s Premier, Parent and Child plans provide a choice of comprehensive cover to individuals and their families, building on our managed care capabilities.

Dental

CIGNA HealthCare is one of the UK’s leading providers of dental plans and as part of the CIGNA International organisation, provides dental plans for 10 million patients worldwide. CIGNA has been providing dental plans for over 40 years.

At CIGNA we understand the need for employers to balance benefit costs versus cover, and we therefore offer a choice of dental plans to suit different requirements. The simple plan designs, comprehensive cover and efficient claims service all combine to deliver total employee satisfaction.

There are two main types of dental plan to choose from. The first of these is our comprehensive range of plans, designed to reimburse the majority of costs associated with dental treatment. The second of these is our range of co-insurance plans, designed to provide cover for accident and emergency treatment and a contribution towards routine dental treatment costs.

Absence Management

CIGNA’s absence case management service is a unique system of care co-ordination with the goal of assisting employees back into work as quickly and safely as possible.

Absent employees are referred by their line manager to CIGNA according to agreed criteria that reflect the company's specific needs. Once referred, CIGNA’s experienced, nurse-led case management team takes over, assessing the case, creating the optimum plan of action and maintaining contact between employee, line manager and care specialists throughout the case.

CIGNA’s innovative, market-leading case management service offers a wide range of benefits to both the employee and the company:

  • reductions in employee absence levels and associated costs
  • support for employees whilst absent and returning to work
  • support for line managers in managing absence
  • support for company HR and Health & Safety functions
  • management of financial and litigation risks

CiGNA's client's consistently express high levels of satisfaction with around 80% of line managers confirming that CIGNA's case management service reduces absence levels. The service is both preventative and diagnostic, it offers a unique advocacy service for the employee and is a highly effective absence cost-management tool.

The CIGNA Day One absence monitoring system

CIGNA’s Day One absence monitoring system is a web-enabled database and communication platform that allows the recording of employee absence details from outset through to either return to work or case management referral. During this period automated email communications are generated and dispatched to the line manager and HR keeping them appraised of the absence and subsequent updates to the employee’s position.

Day One compliments perfectly CIGNA’s absence case management proposition, supporting line management with absence processes, integrating with case management and providing complete and consistent absence records and management reporting from day one through to case closure.

Occupational Health

CIGNA's partnership approach to occupational health is based upon effectively managing organisational risk and employee ill health as well as ensuring employees are in the best possible shape to deliver.

At the core of our service is expert consultation that informs the development of policies and procedures which in turn enable the company to:

  • minimise business risk
  • manage absenteeism
  • maximise productivity

The occupational health needs of businesses vary widely - and also change over time. CIGNA is able to provide companies with a tailored and flexible programme of professionally managed and clinically governed services delivered by health professionals who are trained, developed and assessed to the highest clinical and professional standards.

CIGNA's comprehensive range of onsite, remote and online occupational health services includes:

  • pre-employment and pre-placement assessments
  • occupational assessments
  • health surveillance programmes
  • ergonomic and workplace risk assessments
  • disability assessments
  • on-site clinics
  • travel consultations
  • flu vaccination programmes
  • health promotion programmes

Health Management

CIGNA believes that if a medical condition is correctly managed it need not be a barrier to a satisfying and productive life. We have therefore developed pioneering programmes for people living with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cardiac conditions and asthma. Individuals work with a CIGNA Care Specialist to identify challenges in managing their condition and then develop a programme to optimise their ability to minimise the impact of their condition on their daily and working lives.

Integrated Healthcare

CIGNA clients are increasingly looking for ways to integrate their health benefits and services so that they can more effectively control the impact and cost of ill health whilst still caring for their employees and providing a competitive benefits package. Depending on a specific employer’s needs, CIGNA can provide integrated solutions including acting as a gatekeeper for other providers’ services.
