A history of CIGNA in the UK
1983 CIGNA acquires Reigate based Crusader Insurance PLC.
1989 CIGNA relocates Crusader Insurance PLC from Reigate to Greenock in Scotland.
1994 CIGNA undergoes an external consultant audit to develop a more effective and
efficient line management structure. At the same time CIGNA expands into its present
accommodation in the Knowe Road site at Greenock.
1997 CIGNA acquires Norwich Union Dental.
1999 CIGNA divests its property and casualty business to ACE.
2000 CIGNA restructures the Greenock headquarters to create the European Shared
Service Centre.
2001 CIGNA launches its absence management product
2002 CIGNA sells its individual dental business
2003 CIGNA launches its health management programmes and enters the occupational
health market
2005 CIGNA re-enters the SME marketplace with a new product - SmartHealth
